Deck Builder Basics

Create a deck in Brew, learn the deck editor's tabs, understand format legality checks, and control who can see your decks.

How our guides are made.

Brew is Mana Grove's deck builder. This is the quick tour: creating a deck, finding your way around the editor, legality checks, and sharing.

Create a deck

  1. Open Brew → New Deck in the main navigation.
  2. Name the deck and pick a format. Commander / EDH leads the list, followed by Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, Brawl, Oathbreaker, and more.
  3. Commander-style formats ask for your commander (or partner pair) up front, since color identity depends on it.
  4. Add a description, tags, or a folder if you want them: all optional.
  5. Create the deck and you land in the editor.

Prefer a head start? Brew → Build with AI has Grover draft the whole list from a prompt: see Using the AI Deck Assistant.

Find your way around the editor

Search for cards and add them to the list. The deck page organizes everything into tabs:

  • Cards: the main list, with List, Image, and Spoiler views.
  • Combos: combo lines detected in your current list.
  • Suggestions: personalized picks for this deck from Tutor, our smart deck recommendations, covered in Deck Recommendations Explained.
  • Validation: the format-legality report for the whole deck.
  • Analysis: mana curve, color breakdown, and other deck statistics.
  • Ask AI: chat with Grover about this specific deck.
  • Playtest: take the deck for a test run.
  • History: the deck's change history.

A sidebar of deck insights stays alongside while you work.

Formats and legality checks

Legality checks run as you build, against the format you picked. Open the Validation tab any time for the full report on how the deck measures up to the format's rules, so a problem card never hides until game night.

Saving, sharing, and visibility

Everything you build lives under Brew → Your Decks.

Decks are private by default. To show one to someone:

  1. Open the deck and choose Share.
  2. If the deck is still private, you are asked to confirm making it public before the share link is copied.
  3. Anyone with the link can then view the deck.

Want new decks to start public instead? Turn on Make decks public by default in Settings → Privacy.
