Grover, the AI MTG deck assistant for Commander

Grover is the AI deck assistant on Mana Grove, free to try with no account: describe a commander, a theme or a play style in plain language and it drafts a full Commander deck and answers rules questions, while the deck builder checks every card's legality as you build.

Building a deck with Grover

Commander comes first. Grover drafts MTG Commander decks, and also decks for other formats, such as Standard and Modern, when you name the format in the first sentence of your brief: "a Commander deck" and "a Modern deck" call for very different lists.

A brief becomes a deck in three steps:

  1. Brief. Open Brew, then Build with AI, and describe the deck in a sentence or two: a commander or a theme, the table you play at, any card you insist on. "Build me a lifegain Commander deck my casual pod won't hate. Bracket 2." is a good first message.
  2. Draft. Grover assembles a full list from that one message, with the reasoning behind every pick. You can watch the build progress, and the list lands in the deck builder for you to review.
  3. Refine. Ask for changes in short follow-ups, such as "lower the curve" or "more removal". Every refinement shows you the proposed changes before they are applied, so nothing moves without your approval, and your recent builds stay on the same page.

The checks belong to the deck builder, not to Grover. Legality checks run as you build, against the format you picked, and the Validation tab names the card behind each problem, or gives the card count when the deck is the wrong size. Leave prices out of the brief: once the deck works, the budget filter in the Suggestions tab keeps Tutor's picks inside your price range.

You can try it before you sign up. The demo builds a Commander deck from your brief with no account, and its chat side gives you two free messages.

Build with the cards you own

Grover drafts from your brief, not from your collection, but the rest of Mana Grove works with the cards you own. Import your collection from a CSV file or another tool, and:

  • every deck marks the cards you own, with how many copies you have;
  • search has a Collection Only switch that shows only cards from your collection;
  • Tutor's suggestions read your collection too, and when you are signed in, the Owned chip in the Suggestions tab narrows them to cards you already have;
  • Decks you can build shows which recent competitive decks you can build from what you own and how close you are to the rest, and Build this deck opens the deck builder with your cards already in it.

Analyze a deck you already have

Grover works on decks you already have, not only on new ones. Import or build the list, open the deck and use its Ask AI tab: because the deck is attached to the conversation, questions about cuts, upgrades and the mana base are answered against your actual list. "This is at 104 cards. What do I cut to get to 100, and why?" is the kind of question it is for.

Three readings sit beside it, and none costs a Grover message:

  • the Analysis tab shows the mana curve, the colour distribution, the average mana value and the average number of lands in an opening hand;
  • the deck builder counts your Game Changers and shows your list's bracket as you build;
  • the free bracket checker reads any pasted Commander list and shows the lowest bracket its cards point to, 2 to 4, and the cards behind it.

Ask a rules question

In chat, Grover answers rules questions, card evaluations and combo lines, such as "How does myriad work with Isshin, Two Heavens as One?" Treat each rules answer as a starting point, always worth verifying against the Comprehensive Rules: Grover is a deck-building assistant, not a judge. When it looks up a rule, the chat quotes it with its number, so check the rule it points to before you rely on it at the table.

Free plan and allowances

Every plan includes the full deck builder, and the legality checks and mana statistics are free and unlimited. Grover runs on a monthly allowance of messages: 20 a month on the Free plan, then 100 on Starter, 500 on Plus, 1,500 on Pro and unlimited on Unlimited, under a fair use policy. A first draft is one message and each refinement is one more, so a draft and a handful of changes fit in the Free plan. When you reach your limit, Grover pauses until your allowance resets on your personal monthly date, shown under Usage. Prices for your country are on the pricing page.

No ads, no sponsored recommendations

Mana Grove shows no ads, uses no affiliate links and never sells your personal data: these are permanent commitments in section 11 of our Terms of Service. No recommendation from Grover, Tutor or Scry is ever sponsored, and subscriptions are our only revenue.

Questions about Grover

Can an AI build a legal Commander deck?

It can draft one that comes close, and a legality check catches the rest: a card outside your commander's colour identity, a banned card or a second copy of a card, unless it is a basic land or its own text allows more. In Mana Grove, the Validation tab checks every deck the same way, whoever built it, so finish Grover's draft with the report open.

Does Grover build from my collection?

Not today. Grover drafts from your brief, not from your collection. Mana Grove marks the cards you own in every deck, search has a Collection Only switch, Tutor's suggestions read your collection, and Decks you can build opens the deck builder pre-filled with cards you own.

Can it fix a deck I already have?

Yes. Import or build the list, then open the deck's Ask AI tab. Because the deck is attached to the conversation, Grover answers against your actual list: what to cut, what to upgrade and whether the mana base holds up.

Is it free?

Yes. The demo needs no account, and the Free plan includes 20 Grover messages a month along with the full deck builder. Paid plans raise the allowance; the pricing page shows the prices for your country.

Which formats does it build for?

Commander first: Mana Grove is built for Commander, and the no-account demo builds Commander decks only. Grover also drafts for other formats, such as Standard and Modern, when you name the format in the first sentence of your brief.

Does it know the Commander brackets?

Yes, when it builds. Grover builds toward Bracket 3 unless you ask for another one, with a bracket number in your brief ("Bracket 2"), a request for cEDH or high power, or a Target bracket picked in the deck builder. Below Bracket 4 it caps the Game Changers and extra-turn cards it adds, and it leaves out mass land denial unless your brief asks for land destruction or stax with no bracket named or picked. To check the finished list, the deck builder shows its bracket as you build, and the bracket checker reads any pasted list: the lowest bracket its cards point to, 2 to 4, and the cards behind it.
